Houston ISD Tutoring Program Delivers Gains in Math & Reading Performance

HISD Reading and Math Assessments Feb-May 2016 200x150Serving Title I schools with significant achievement gaps in math and reading is a challenge faced by many districts across the country. Houston Independent School District (HISD) needed a solution that would address these gaps and work towards improving student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR). To make this change happen, HISD partnered with Catapult Learning to provide a flexible and targeted tutoring solution for 1487 Title I students in 19 HISD schools serving this largely at-risk student population.

Seven Years of Sustained Literacy Achievement with Literacy First

In 2003, Arkansas City Public Schools were not meeting their literacy goals—almost half of their high school learners were scoring below standard, and scores among elementary students were inconsistent from school to school. In need of a dramatic transformation, Arkansas City public Schools turned to Catapult Learning’s Literacy First program because of its proven track record in comprehensive, research-based literacy reform. Literacy First successfully established a consistent reading framework across the entire school district, from Pre-K to 12th grade.

New York City Priority School Improves Reading Gains with Expanded Learning Time

The principal of P.S. 064 Pura Belpre Elementary School in New York City and her staff face challenges on many fronts. According the NYC DOE progress report, Pura Belpre ranked at the 9th percentile in 2012. With the help of Catapult Learning, Pura Belpre has begun the arduous work of turning around their annual progress report results by delivering Catapult Learning’s signature progressive, sequenced and explicit AchieveReading Flex curriculum to
222 students at the school.

Like all schools with a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, Lanier High School in Austin, TX was seeking a way to better engage their at-risk learners in an effort narrow the achievement gap and make greater gains. The Austin Independent School District partnered with Catapult Learning during the 201112 school year to implement a high-intensity tutoring program at Lanier customized to reach these struggling students.
