Encouraging Student Literacy with a Sweet Ending
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Catapult Learning in Lakewood NJ is encouraging student literacy by offering their students a coupon for ice cream. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal! Although, the ice cream isn’t free. The students have to earn it.
The Catapult Learning team has worked tirelessly to provide their Lakewood students with reading strategies that will enable them to become strategic, independent readers. In this effort to encourage student literacy, the students’ goal is to read ten books each.
The books must be at the student’s independent reading level and parents must verify that their child has read all ten. The Catapult Learning teacher will assist the students in picking out ten books that are appropriate for their reading level. After students read all ten of their chosen books, they are eligible for a coupon to be redeemed at local ice cream shops.
Someone once said that the greatest gift you can give a child is literacy…but ice cream just might be a close second! Let’s hope that these Lakewood students get both.
