Each Catapult Learning Study Skills and Test-Taking Strategy lesson has been designed to address specific skills and strategies and provides a scaffolded approach to student learning. The carefully scaffolded instruction provides students opportunities for direct instruction, guided practice, and independent practice across a sequence of skill instruction. The overarching goal of this program is for students to become more effective and efficient with their study skills and test-taking strategies and to apply these newly acquired skills directly to the classroom. Students demonstrate their knowledge through oral discussion and a variety of individual writing and application activities.
The lessons have been designed to address specific study skills or test-taking strategies (e.g. listening skills, note- taking, summarizing), with targeted objectives focused on the application of each skill or strategy. Each lesson is timed for 55 minutes to be presented in a 60-minute instructional session. The lessons are designed to be delivery in a small group setting with an 8:1 student-teacher ratio.
The lessons provide materials for instructional levels 1-8. These materials are presented in three instructional bands 1-2, 3-5, 6-8.
Materials for each band include:
- 10 Teacher Lesson Manuals with scripted lessons,
- 10 Student Resource Booklets,
- A Teacher Training Manual.
