Helping Private and Religious Schools Sustain Excellence
The current focus in the educational arena today is toward Total School Improvement. The mandates of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act move public schools and education in general toward more effective use of data. The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), "The Nation's Report Card", consistently shows that private school students have better than average achievement. Rx for Schools Sustaining Excellence helps schools meet the challenge of total school improvement, moving them from good to great schools. The focus to develop great schools encourages educators and leaders in private schools, dioceses, and other school associations not only to analyze, interpret and use data, but to dialogue and reach consensus in their decision-making. Rx for Schools Sustaining Excellence guides this process.

Funding
Sustaining Excellence can be funded through Title IIA funds authorized under NCLB. Additionally, some aspects of the program can be funded through Title IA professional development funds, Reading First, Title IID technology funds, and Title V innovative program funds. Groups of private schools, such as those represented by diocese or private school associations, can request that their funds be pooled in order to fund this program. A sustained, long-term, data-driven effort to improve student performance and target areas in need of improvement is very much in keeping with the focus of federal programs under NCLB.
