Catapult Learning has partnered with our sister companies, Hooked on Phonics™ and Reading Rainbow™ and Sylvan Learning CenterSM, to create an at-home learning program that starts with a parent workshop and ends with a fun time for parents and children working together at home.
Catapult Learning Home Connections™ is designed to strengthen family literacy and support students' reading, writing, math, study and test taking skills in the home.
The Home Connections™ Program offers a combination of:
- Workshops designed specifically for parents of students who are at risk of academic failure and
- Take Home learning kits designed for parents to use with their children at home
While providing fun, learning time together, these materials also help build a home library of developmentally appropriate and attractive reading materials.
When parents come to the Catapult Learning Home Connections™ workshops, at their children's school, typically at the beginning and end of the school year, they learn tips and strategies for working with their children to enhance school success.
Parent Workshops
Workshops are specially developed for the Home Connections™ Program and are meant to be delivered at parent meetings held at the school. The first workshop orients parents to the program and the follow up workshop provides more information on working with students at home. Workshops are structured to encourage family members to learn from each other as well as from the Catapult workshop facilitator.
Home Connections Take Home Kits from Hooked on Phonics™
Materials come in kits at multiple instructional levels. Within each kit, materials are sequenced according to reading skill levels and include reading materials, a parent guide in both English and Spanish, and support materials for skill building and retention. Each kit contains information about the Catapult Learning Private & Religious School Services reading program and provides a guide to understanding the progress reports we provide several time each year to families. Activities and suggestions help parents maximize the effectiveness of the Home Connections™ materials, which focus on enjoyable reading activities, supporting children's progress, and developing a life-long love of reading.
Family Literacy Kits™ from Reading Rainbow™
These multi-level, colorful, backpack kits are sequenced according to reading skill levels and include complete DVDs of Reading Rainbow programs which have appeared on PBS and are hosted by Lavar Burton. A single favorite trade book is featured in each show. Copies of the book are included in the kits along with other materials designed to make learning fun and successful.
Sylvan School Success™ from Sylvan Learning Center The Confident Way to an A!
Sylvan School Success uses four, progressively challenging levels to teach children organizational skills, study skills and test-taking skills. A complete parent toolbox is included along with CD-Roms, user guides, and student activities. A special added feature is a FREE Sylvan Skills Assessment. This valuable, comprehensive assessment of reading or math skills may be redeemed at participating Sylvan Learning Centers.
